Michael Gunn brings to AEGIS over 50 years of legal experience and has served at the highest levels of governance for the legal profession. He has extensive experience in the areas of the Estate Planning, probate and trust administration, with a reputation that has earned him the Martindale-Hubbell AV® Preeminent™ rating, the highest possible recognition of legal ability and ethics.

Michael endeavors to utilize his extensive legal experience to help clients meet their personal and professional goals. His 49 years of service to the City of Manchester, Missouri, first as prosecutor (27 years) and then as judge (22 years), has provided him with unique insights as to problem solving as well aiding in the interaction clients have with the legal system and helping them to develop solutions to complex issues. He is also a graduate of the United States Army Leadership Training Academy at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and has an Honorable Discharge from the US Army.

BAR LEADERSHIP & STRATEGIC STEWARDSHIP

Michael’s dedication and assistance to the legal profession is meaningful. Beginning in 1987, he served The Missouri Bar on its Board of Governors, ending with his election as President of The Missouri Bar from 1999 to 2000. As President, he led the state’s legal community through pivotal professional issues. His leadership extended on a national level through his 23 years of service in the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association, where he ultimately served as Missouri’s State Delegate, the senior state representative, helping to shape the national standards for legal practice.

He is a tireless advocate for the advancement of the profession, having created the Missouri Bar Leadership Academy to increase diversity and mentorship in bar leadership. His business experience includes 15-year tenure as Chair of board of directors of The Bar Plan Surety and Fidelity Company. He also served as President of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, the Lawyers Association of St. Louis and the National Conference of Bar Foundations.

Credentials & Legacy of Excellence

Michael also spent twelve years as Chair of the Board of Directors for Peter & Paul Community Services, an ecumenical agency, that provides housing and supportive services to persons who are homeless, especially those who experience mental illness or live with HIV. This commitment to service mirrors his professional approach: a focus on practical, real-world issues and the development of solutions to complex human and commercial problems. As a member of the AEGIS Law team, Michael continues his work with clients to meet their planning needs, goals and expectations, contributing his over five decades of experience as an asset for the firm’s national platform.

Michael earned his Juris Doctorate from the St. Louis University School of Law in 1968. In recognition of his long and enduring impact on the profession, he was inducted into the St. Louis University School of Law “Order of the Fleur de Lis Hall of Fame” in 2025. In addition, he has lectured and written extensively in the areas of estate planning, trust administration and ethics.
