We saw an opportunity to create a new model of legal services that combined cutting-edge technology with top-tier legal expertise. We wanted to break away from the conventional law firm approach and offer clients a more agile, responsive, and forward-thinking experience. At the core of this vision was a desire to truly partner with clients, becoming an integral part of their success story rather than just an external advisor. The traditional model often kept clients at arm’s length, but we aspired to develop deep, collaborative relationships where legal counsel was fully invested in achieving client goals.

However, our vision was not solely focused on redefining the client experience; we also recognized the need to transform the traditional law firm environment itself. In our early days, we embarked on a remarkable journey of serving startups and fledgling companies, infused with inexhaustible energy and aspiration—an embodiment of our very own path. Not only did we recognize the hurdles and aspirations that accompany limited experience and resources, but we also embarked on a shared mission to propel these nascent enterprises towards triumph. Our vision was a beacon of hope and transformation in an antiquated profession that had long been resistant to change. One of our clients who has been with us since the beginning is Tom Epstein, the leader of Continental Research Corporation. As entrepreneurs, our journey wasn’t without its own quirks and, dare I say, penchant for chasing after the shiny objects that occasionally captured our attention. We’ll always remember that time when, for reasons known only to the cosmos, we decided to dip our toes into the world of web marketing by starting a firm dedicated to that endeavor. In hindsight, it’s a common tale of how even the most seasoned visionaries can occasionally be caught in the allure of novel trends. That particular adventure didn’t unfold quite as we envisioned.

And yet, in the crazy mosaic of our entrepreneurial journey, we’ve had shining moments that outshine the occasional missteps. In addition to launching a venture fund—an endeavor that would evolve into an instrumental component of AEGIS Law’s legacy—we also took the bold step of venturing into the realm of commercial real estate. This exploration wasn’t a mere dalliance; it was a testament to our innate curiosity and audacity to expand beyond the boundaries of legal practice. In true AEGIS Law fashion, we embarked on the path of real estate, embracing the learning curve, embracing the industry’s nuances, and emerging as students of yet another arena.

The venture fund we ignited has grown into a formidable entity, steadfastly managing an expansive portfolio of assets that now surpasses the $200 million mark. In the evolution of this remarkable narrative, it’s important to note that a number of years ago, the principals of the law firm consciously disengaged from the day-to-day management of the venture fund. The torch was deftly passed to a dedicated team of leaders who, through their unwavering commitment and adept stewardship, have elevated the fund’s success to new heights. They are the humble architects of its ongoing triumph, and their efforts deserve a resounding applause. As co-founders of this incredible story, we stand proud of our role in its genesis, and we salute the legacy that continues to unfold.

The turning point arrived in 2010, a year that would etch itself into the annals of our journey. It wasn’t just a change of name; it marked a profound transformation from “Levine Law” to “AEGIS Law.” This pivotal rebranding was fueled by a realization that we had outgrown the confines of being “Levine Law.” It was a recognition that our firm’s identity was no longer synonymous with me, its Founder. We aspired for a brand that encapsulated our larger purpose, an emblem of legal excellence and innovation. The transition signified our commitment to stepping beyond personal labels and adopting a broader, more encompassing identity.

And so, as the calendar flipped to 2010, our rebranding wasn’t just about a new name—it was the dawn of a transformative era. It was an acknowledgment that we were no longer confined to past identities, but were embracing a grander vision of legal excellence, innovation, leadership and growth. We set forth on a new trajectory, harmonizing the art of law with the art of business, creating an environment where both flourish, thrive, and elevate each other toward unparalleled success.

In 2013, AEGIS Law’s journey of expansion gained momentum with a transformative move led by legal visionary Robert Gold. Robert, an investment banker turned lawyer with AEGIS Law almost a decade ago, embodies our transformational ethos. His unique background bridges the worlds of law and finance, bringing an invaluable perspective to serving clients across industries.

The Chicago expansion was the first of many calculated moves that allowed us to deliver our unique brand of legal counsel and client service to a wider audience.

Following this milestone, the symphony of audacious ventures and meaningful alliances continued. In 2014, our journey found resonance in Southern Illinois when Joel Green, Lori DaCosse, and Tammy White embraced our vision, transforming the terrain into a canvas for collaboration and progress.

The expansion to Southern Illinois, while proximate in geography, represented a leap into the unknown—a calculated step into the future. This journey laid the cornerstone for subsequent expansions into markets like Chicago, Illinois, Denver, Colorado, and Tampa Bay, Florida. Amid these strides, it was a merger that would resonate most. In 2018, Rochelle Walk’s practice merged with AEGIS Law, ushering in a partnership that would redefine our essence.

In 2020, our voyage of expansion turned towards Denver, marking a strategic and transformative move. As we set foot in the Mile High City, we found kinship with Rod Atherton and his accomplished team, magnifying our impact and accelerating our growth.
